The Gazette’s campaign to raise money for Help for Heroes received a huge boost this week after the Co-op handed over a cheque for £2,000.
Eddie Jenkinson, fuels manager for the Co-op Group, said the money came from an awards dinner in September given every year to the group’s suppliers.
He said: “There is a lot of fundraising done at these events and we asked our staff where they would like the money to go.
“The overwhelming response was that it should go to Help for Heroes.
“We were going to send it straight to the charity but someone said, why don’t we go in with the Gazette’s appeal as it goes towards a centre in the county.
“All the towns in Wiltshire with close connections with the military have our branches in them.
“The Somerfield in Devizes, which is now part of our group, is very close to the war memorial.
“So many of our staff have relatives who are servicemen and women.
“I know that the donation will be put to very good use.”
