Two girls aged 13 have completed a ten-mile walk for Help for Heroes, wearing net tutus decorated with tinsel over their jeans.
Karly Heweson, of Queens Road, Devizes, and Toria Wilfort, of Seend Cleeve, walked along the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath from Devizes to Seend Cleeve.
They then walked across fields to Bowerhill and into Melksham, taking five hours in all.
The teenagers were joined along the towpath by Toria’s spaniel Rhys but he was handed back to her mother Juli at Seend Cleeve.
The girls, who are both pupils at Devizes School, hope to have raised about £150 for Help for Heroes.
Mrs Wilfort, who works for the Ministry of Defence, said: “The girls are both a little disappointed there needs to be a charity like Help for Heroes but they are very pleased to have done something positive, even if it’s a tiny contribution.”
Toria, whose father, Steve, used to be in the Royal Navy, said: “Help for Heroes is a really, really good charity.
“It gets a lot of donations but people don’t realise that it’s not enough.
“We see it on the news every day that someone has died fighting for our country and Karly and I wanted to help.”
The girls had to contend with mud underfoot but the weather was dry and was not as freezing cold as it has been this week.
Rhys, a springer spaniel, had tinsel on his collar to match the girls on the walk which took place on December 11.
