Wiltshire Police Authority today announced that Chippenham is to get a new police station.
This will replace the dated, former NAAFI building that the police have occupied in Wood Lane since the 1960s.
Councillor Chris Caswill, the local Wiltshire Councillor and Member of Wiltshire Police Authority, said: “This is good news for Chippenham. It demonstrates the long term commitment to deliver local policing for the town. The current building is a maintenance nightmare.
"Something has to be done and now is the right time, even in the current financial climate. We have the opportunity to sell part of the site as a major contribution to the cost of a smaller building on the remainder of the site.
"We are confident that we will get competitive quotes for the work and it makes sense to begin now rather than struggle on with the old building.”
