Saturday July 24 saw the invasion of Calne by over 4,000 gleaming motorcycles to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Rotary Club of Calne’s annual Motorcycle Meet.
It was a fantastic event the highlight of which was a mass ride out to Bowood for a photograph opportunity on the lawn in front of Bowood House.
As president I wish to publicly thank Lord Lansdowne for welcoming around 4,000 bikers on to his estate for this unique opportunity.
The organising committee have worked hard for the last year to make this event happen in the way that it did.
I can confirm that it is no easy feat to have such a successful event where there are so many things to organise.
This year’s committee have indeed excelled themselves with all the bands, stalls and motorcycle clubs showing their vintage, veteran, classic and modern motorcycles. Food and refreshment stalls were busy all day and the town’s businesses did a roaring trade. My heartfelt thanks go to the committee for all their hard work.
Once again the marshals did a splendid job on the day and helped the event to succeed. Thank you.
Lastly I wish to thank the people of Calne for their ongoing support for this event, all the “bikers” I spoke to were very appreciative of the welcome that Calne residents show them.
Howard Marshall, President, Rotary Club of Calne.
