Children enjoyed making music during the week-long Devizes summer school.
The event attracted 50 primary pupils, aged between seven and 11, of varying musical experience, including novices.
One of the highlights was the chance to play different instruments ranging from violin, cello, flute, piccolo, trumpet, guitar to steel pans. The instruments were lent by West Wiltshire Young Musicians.
The theme of the week was world music and the youngsters listened to a pieces from Africa, the Caribbean, Japan, South America or India and then created their own composition.
The children, who were mainly from the Devizes area, sang in a choir, learned pieces for recorder ensembles, folk music and orchestral.
The culmination of the summer school was a concert to parents and friends and the music included world music, well-known songs and a specially-written composition, Joshua Jazz.
Music teachers Tim and Gill Hutchings, of All Cannings, organised the event, which is in its 33rd year and is held at Southbroom Junior School.
Mrs Hutchings said: “It was a very good group of children. There were about 20 new pupils. The rest had been before and enjoyed it so much they came back. The aim of the week is to have fun in making music together.”
Mr Hutchings said: “Several Year 6 children have said they want to come back next year to be helpers.
“We have had emails from parents saying how much their children enjoyed it and can’t wait until next year.”
The Nugee Trust gave funding for musical equipment while Morrisons and Sainsbury’s supermarkets provided healthy snacks for the pupils’ morning break.
