Young Pewsey footballer Charlie Lamb, who died in a car crash last September, is to be remembered through a remarkable competition.

Charlie’s mum Jane Lamb, her friend Angela Hobbs and Charlie’s girlfriend Leonie Reilley are asking young people to design an outfit made from salvaged materials.

The shortlisted entries will be made up and shown off at a Trashion Show at the Theatre on the Hill at St John’s School, Marlborough, on Saturday November 13.

Mrs Hobbs said: “This is a perfect opportunity to make young people more aware of cutting waste and making more interesting and distinctive clothes for themselves.”

Entrants will be urged to make an old garment more fashionable by adding recycled products such as plastic bags and aluminium cans.

There are five categories: Red Carpet (outfits suitable for premieres etc); Urban (streetwise clobber); Fantasy; High Street (everyday fashion) and Festival (suitable for a pop concert).

Entrants have to write up to 200 words on fashion and conservation and perhaps sketch their outfits.

Prizes will be given to the winners of each category and the best in show and the competition is open to all 14 to 21-year-olds in Wiltshire.

Proceeds will be split between St John’s School and Charlie’s Charity, a fund set up by Mrs Lamb shortly after Charlie’s death at the age of 18.

She said: “We are really delighted by the support we’ve had for Charlie’s Charity.”

A website www.char liescharity.co.uk will go online in the next fortnight.
