Music student Ben James will be playing for his fare to China at a special concert at St Mary’s Church in Devizes in September.
Mr James, 19, of Avon Road, Devizes, is studying for a music degree at Leeds University.
His preferred instrument is the saxophone, but he has been a percussionist with the Wiltshire and Swindon Youth Orchestra for six years and has been invited to accompany them on a concert tour of Hong Kong in October.
However, he needs to find £950 for the fare and the concert is part of his fundraising campaign.
Mr James, who hopes to join a military band when he finishes at university, said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
He has been playing the saxophone since he was nine and has a particular love of jazz.
At the concert, which takes place on September 11 at 7pm, he will be accompanied by local pianist Dominic Irving. Tickets from the Spar Shop in Bath Road or Devizes Books.
