The leaflet produced by Wiltshire Council detailing changes to bus services in the Marlborough and Pewsey area contains the following.
Under the heading AD Rains bus services 43a/X43 (Marlborough to Avebury) early morning journeys, it states: “We regret that due to the very small number of people using these early morning journeys, this service will be withdrawn from August 1 2010.”
It is not surprising that hardly anyone used these services. I have a guide to bus services published in December 2009 by Wiltshire Council.
Under the heading Avebury (to and from Marlborough), the first bus is listed as departing from Marlborough at 8.35. Nowhere is there any mention of the early morning service. I would expect this bus was funded by the taxpayer and wonder how much it has cost us for Wiltshire Council to run this unpublicised service.
My sister in Salisbury, tells me Wiltshire Council’s proposals for revised timetables earlier this year were so idiotic that a public meeting was called and they were eventually revised. The leaflet states changes here are to enable the service to be provided in a more cost-effective and economical manner.
I would like to suggest much-needed changes are also made in the Wiltshire Council’s transport department.
