It will be interesting to see which businesses survive the idiocy taking place in Marlborough over the coming months while the Pewsey Road bridge is replaced and gas works in Kingsbury Street are completed.
Today, parking has been allowed on both sides of this road, causing further congestion on the only road to have free flowing traffic, albeit in one direction. If this was Government, a public enquiry would be called for.
A previous complainant asked why the bridge is not constructed off site and the road closed for a week to enable the new structure to be put in place. On the motorway this happens all the time. The superstructure could also be designed to look the same and then replaced. The only winner appears to be Marlborough Town Council who has taken the opportunity to refurbish the outside of their property in Kingsbury Street.
I have no doubt that Marlborough will come to a standstill again this weekend furthering the slow demise of more retail businesses in the High Street.
When a town of Marlborough’s standing has five charity shops as well as empty properties, I despair.
Heads should roll.
Ann Harley, London Road, Marlborough.
