Robots have repaired a corroded sewer that runs under Lypiatt Road in Corsham after it was feared digging it up could cause the closure of the Bristol to London railway line.

Wessex Water engineers needed to repair the 50-year-old sewer, which runs alongside the railway line.

The robots were placed in the system via a manhole cover, requiring no digging up of the road surface. The road has been closed for a week.

Engineer Barry Burtenshaw said: “Carrying out work on a sewer in a challenging location like this is now feasible with minimal disruption, thanks to this technology.”
