Residents of Lacock’s picturesque High Street were shocked by vandals smashing the windows of several cars using milk bottles.

The rampage happened last week, on Monday, at around 4am before the group moved on to Pickwick Road in Corsham, damaging another three cars. They had poured milk over the vehicles before throwing the empty bottles at the windows.

Four youngsters were arrested and bailed shortly afterwards. They are two 17-year-old boys, from Devizes and Chippenham, one 14-year-old and one 15-year-old girl, both from Chippenham.

The teenagers must report to Melksham Police Station on August 17 and have been given a night time curfew. They are not permitted to communicate with each other.

Emily Edwards, 23, of the High Street, Lacock, said: “I slept through the whole thing but a loud noise woke up my partner and he called the police. He heard a car drive off.

“When he went out to see what had happened he could see the glass smashed on the floor. The police were here within 20 minutes and cleared up the mess.

“I have lived here all my life and it’s pretty quiet but in the last couple of months we have had some trouble with boy racers. This is not the sort of thing that happens in Lacock.”

PC Melonie Neal, of Chippenham Police, said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was in Lacock or Corsham at the relevant time.”
