A serious accident on the A350 dual carriageway in Chippenham this morning has left two people with life threatening injuries and traffic in chaos.
The collision involving a Hills refuse lorry, a Ford Transit van and a Renault Megane happened at Kington Langley shortly before 7am.
A rapid response vehicle and an ambulance were first on scene at 7.05am followed by four ambulances, a second rapid response vehicle, a GWAS officer and two SWIFT medics.
SWIFT medic Adam Brownhill said: “The accident was horrific, I have never seen anything like it. The dumper truck was on its side.
“Next to that there was some kind of Ford Transit with its front completely smashed in.”
The driver of the Ford Transit sustained multiple life threatening injuries and had to be cut out of his car by the fire crews, while the passenger had been thrown from the vehicle onto the dual carriageway.
Both men, thought to be in their early 30s were taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.
The driver of the refuse lorry was also trapped, and was taken to Royal United Hospital in Bath with his two colleagues but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The driver of the Renault Megane was checked over at the scene but escaped with no injuries.
Serious Collision Investigation Team were processing the scene speaking to witnesses.
The road is expected to be open this afternoon.
