Members of Swindon Male Voice Choir raised more than £5,000 for the Gazette’s Help for Heroes Appeal.

They hit the jackpot for the cause in June when they staged a concert at the Oasis in Swindon.

Last week key members of the choir visited the Help for Heroes headquarters in Tidworth to present a cheque to the charity’s national co-ordinator, Belinda Mitchell.

Band president Ken Knox, chairman Brian Routledge and concert organiser Gareth Jenkins made the trip with Captain Richard Watterson, director of music with the band of the Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. His band took part in the concert.

Mr Jenkins said: “We were delighted with the way the concert went and now we have been asked to perform some more at different venues for Help for Heroes.”

n SCRAPBOOKERS in Calne are being invited to make their own gifts to send to loved ones in Afghanistan while raising money for charity.
