School rock band Jonny Budd and The Demented appear on national television today and on three more occasions in August on a programme that showcases the talents of youngsters.
The Ramsbury-based band, made up of students from St John’s School, Marlborough, will be appearing on Skillicious on CiTV.
Richard Perkins from the International Guitar Federation nominated the band because of 13-year-old Jonny’s guitar talent.
Jonny’s sister Lucy is the band’s vocalist and writes most of their songs while Jonny composes the music.
A CiTV camera crew descended on Ramsbury for the recording session for Skillicious, which goes out eight times during the school summer holidays (10.30am and 5pm each day) today and on August 9, 18 and 27.
The Demented has already built up a local reputation as a band to watch for the future and has recently recorded its first five-track EP at Studio 91 in Newbury.
Jonny and Lucy are backed by Will Allman on drums, Jack Amos guitar and Felix Davies bass guitar.
Last year The Demented won the Hungerford Battle of the Bands and they play regularly at local gigs.
Jonny and Lucy, as a duet, will be performing at Salisbury Playhouse tomorrow afternoon.
It’s only three years since Jonny took up the guitar and he has passed his Grade V exams and is currently studying for Grade VIII.
His ambition, he said, was “anything to do with guitars and music”.
Jonny said he first became interested in the guitar because of his dad, Ben’s love of guitar music.
He said: “My dad was heavily into guitar based music and I got into it through that.”
His heroes, he said included Jimmi Hendrix, Slash the Guns N Roses guitarist and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin.
