How fortunate the young people of Rowde are to have received, apparently gratis, a skateboard park. How generous of Devizes to give it away after it had languished for so long in storage, while those in Devizes, who have been in a position in the past to make a decision as to a suitable location, didn’t manage to achieve anything.
It’s not surprising that the young people of Devizes feel that no-one cares about them when they see other locations in the area getting facilities that are denied to them due to bureaucratic inertia.
The location of a facility such as a skateboard park within a community will always be a compromise.
Put it on The Green next to the existing play area. I’m sure there’s already noise generated there by children playing and, as far as I know, that has never been an issue. It is said that a skateboard park would attract an ‘unwelcome element’, but we’ve already seen that happen with the existing play equipment, so that will have to be dealt with.
It is, I think, nearly eight years now that this issue has remained unresolved.
For goodness sake will those in a position to do something positive just get on and do it.
