Completing my 70.70 charity walk makes me feel really SNAP happy. Hopefully the St Nicholas Appeal for a Pool – the scheme to build a much needed hydrotherapy pool for its special needs pupils – will benefit as a result.
I also did the walk for my own special reasons.
Firstly, it was in memory of my father whose health was badly damaged in the Second World War, nearly destroying his lungs. He survived until his 70th birthday, bed ridden and living off oxygen tanks. But on that day, he got out of bed and spent a few hours at a small family party with his grandchildren. He then returned to bed and died 48 hours later. I promised I would do something special if I was lucky enough to reach 70.
Secondly, it was in thanks that I was still able to do so – having broken my neck some 20 years ago.
Thus my decision to walk 70 miles for SNAP to make a small contribution to helping youngsters who have handicaps.
My walk has finished. But my fundraising has not.
There is no closing date for contributions: personally when you see me, by telephone (01249) 661068 or email: andrew.phillips-jap@ virgin.net or if in Chippenham please drop it into the Town Hall in an envelope with my name on it.
Many thanks to all those who have already supported me.
Coun Andy Phillips, Redland Ward, Chippenham Town Council.
