Having shut our hospitals and magistrates’ courts to boost those facilities in Chippenham and Salisbury, Wiltshire Council has now decided to get rid of the leisure centres in Central Wiltshire as well. The true nature of this unitary council is apparent – to preserve and boost services in parts of the county – Chippenham and Salisbury – by asset stripping the rest.
Those who are cynical have lost all faith in this self-serving administration. Vague claims to replace some facilities with new hubs will be treated with the same distrust as other promises – replacing the facilities to be lost with anything comparable is unlikely.
As long as the Wiltshire Council administration have their private health spas and golf clubs to relax in why should they care about the ordinary council tax payers?
What is even more frightening is that the new government proposes that the local health service will be managed by this local authority, a council which has little or no regard for encouraging exercise.
