I refer to your letter of the week last week about Art in the Park in Chippenham. As we all have to tighten our belts considerably over the next four to five years could I suggest to Jane Scott, leader Wiltshire Council, that the seven health and safety officers’ posts, attending that one informal meeting, be looked at urgently to make considerable savings straight away. I would also suggest that the ambulance service, Fire and Rescue Service and the police authority carry out a similar exercise. Twelve people to attend one meeting is a complete disregard for the public purse. I had to read the letter three times to check what I was reading. Who authorised their attendance? Have they never heard of collaborative working?

I take my hat off to people like Roger Greenslade who raise money for good causes. We must not destroy this goodwill through armies of jobsworths.
