Teenage singer/songwriter Shannon Saunders has reached the finals of a national talent competition.
The 16-year-old, who lives just outside Malmesbury and goes to Wootton Bassett School, is up against four other hopefuls to win the chance to produce a solo video to be shown on the Disney Channel’s My Camp Rock series.
She was chosen from hundreds of applicants and the the winner will be chosen by a public vote after a sing off at London’s Koko music venue next month.
Shannon, who has been receiving professional coaching from choreographer Beth Honan and X-Factor vocal coach John Modi and singer/songwriter Simon Webbe, said: “It’s been a whirlwind.
“I’m really excited about the final show in London.
“It’s overwhelming to be doing this and to be getting coaching. Not in a million years did I think I would get to the final.”
A passionate singer who also writes her own songs Shannon has 8,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel.
She said: “I absolutely love music. I taught myself the guitar and the piano and, this September, I’m starting at the Bristol Institute of Modern Music.”
The four finalists played at the International Youth Arts Festival in Kingston earlier this month and this Saturday Shannon is performing a private concert at her home for friends and family.
She said: “My parents are so proud of me and I have two older sisters and a younger brother who support me.”
