Departing students from Wootton Bassett School enjoyed a slap-up meal at their sixth form ‘valedictory’ on Friday.
The pupils, who use the term valedictory, Latin for ‘farewell’, instead of the Americanised prom, spent the evening at The Wiltshire Golf and Country Club.
Sixth form centre administrator Jane Norman said it was the first time the event had been held at the venue, which is run by Jennifer Shah, wife of businessman Eddy.
She said: “In the past we have gone further afield which hasn’t been as convenient.
“But the head of Year 13, Alan Powell, knows Jennifer and she suggested they have it at The Wiltshire.
“It was a lovely do, everyone seemed to have an excellent time.”
Students enjoyed a three-course sit-down meal and heard speeches from the head boy and head girl.
Mrs Norman said: “Mr Powell gave a humourous speech with references to certain pupils and then the head boy and head girl gave a joint speech thanking members of staff. Then there was a disco put on by the venue.”
She added: “They have been a lovely group of students, a really nice crowd.
“They try to make all the repatriations and have a done a lot for the school.
“I’ve been here 18 years so I’ve seen quite a few valedictories.
“It’s funny to see how the fashions have changed over the years.
“In the past the fashion was to wear long dresses but now they are quite a bit shorter.”
