Limousines, vintage cars and even a helicopter were used to make sure Year 11 Abbeyfield School students made it to their prom on time last Friday.

The youngsters went all out for the event at the Castle Combe Golf Club, dressing in glitzy dresses and dinner jackets for their final gathering as a year group.

And it was a night to be remembered for friends Gemma Porteous and Holly Arthur who arrived in true A list style when they were flown in by helicopter to the amazement of their classmates.

Year 11 pastoral manager Kerri Buckley said: “It was wonderful to be with all the students at their prom.

“They looked every bit the wonderful young people they are.

“I am very proud of them all, they have been a credit to the school and I wish them all the best for their exam results which they will get later in the summer.

“Many of the students are returning to us for sixth form and the others will be going on to college courses and apprenticeships.

“I wish them all the very best.”

After greeting one another at the entrance, staff and pupils made their way into the golf club, where they shared stories about their five years together and plans for the future.

After a buffet meal the youngsters danced the night away to a disco, which was enjoyed by everyone.

Miss Buckley said: “The students looked absolutely stunning, the girls dressed up in prom dresses and the boys in dinner jackets for the occasion.

“The staff were united in their praise for the young people.

“I would like to say thank you to the many staff who attended to wish the students farewell and good luck with their future endeavours.”
