The popular children’s centre in Calne will be overwhelmed by pirates next week as part of a special fundraising event.
Dozens of families are expected to take part in the annual Barnardo’s Big Toddle at the Sure Start Children’s Centre in Prince Charles Drive on Wednesday at 1pm.
This year’s pirate theme means most of the staff, parents and toddlers will be decked out in headscarves and eye patches to add to the fun.
Barnardo’s team leader Katie Sims said: “The Big Toddle is a fantastic event as it’s all about children helping children.
“Everyone is really excited about taking part, and it will be a good opportunity for parents to get to know each other in a fun setting.
“Every year it’s a great success and helps to raise hundreds of pounds for Barnardo’s.”
Local playgroups, nurseries and individual families still have the opportunity to get involved, with sponsorship forms available from the centre, which is managed by children’s charity Barnardo’s South West on behalf of Wiltshire Council.
As well as taking part in national events like the Big Toddle, the project provides free support and advice to local families with children under five, and has already registered more than 1,000 parents and children.
Activities include stay and play sessions, parenting workshops, antenatal classes, family learning, baby massage, baby signing, childminder surgeries, cookery groups and trips to local attractions.
