Police Chief Inspector Jerry Dawson has been recognised by the Wiltshire Constabulary for setting up events for youngsters in the county.
Chf Insp Dawson of Police Headquarters in Devizes received the accolade at the Wiltshire Police awards at the Corn Exchange in Devizes, earlier this month.
He set up Bluez n Zuz in April 2005, discos across the county for youngsters, which he runs with police staff member Denise Lumby.
Chf Insp Dawson said: “I set up Bluez n Zuz to deal with the anti-social behaviour we were having in the county.
“I first contacted Azuza in Marlborough as a venue and they said they would provide the premises free of charge to benefit the community.
“The first one was very well attended with about 200 people and we’ve just grown from there with the support of the High Sheriff and Chief Constable as well as other mayors in our county towns.
“It’s a place where youngsters can go to meet people of their own age.
“It breaks down the barriers between young people and the police, which helps us to police neighbourhoods. It’s also great for the parents because they know their children are in a safe environment.”
Chf Insp Dawson is planning the first day Bluez n Zuz event, at Hillworth Park in Devizes on August 20 between 2pm and 9pm, featuring a climbing wall and disco.
The next Bluez n Zuz disco is at the Corn Exchange in Market Place, Devizes, tomorrow from 7pm to 9pm.
