St John's Church in Devizes was packed with friends and colleagues of former school teacher Jane McNair for a thanksgiving service.
Mrs McNair, of Canada Rise, Market Lavington, lost her battle with cancer on June 29, aged 46.
About 300 people attended the service on Thursday and the Rev Canon Paul Richardson, the rector of St John’s, said: “The number of people here shows how much Jane was held in great love, respect and esteem.”
He said Mrs McNair, who leaves husband Nick and their 11-year-old daughter Stephanie, brought light, love and joy to so many.
Family friend Lorna Bishop said Mrs McNair was born in Devizes and lived life to the full.
She said: “From the beginning she was a very pretty, bubbly baby and was always smiling.
“Jane leaves us with memories of her at her very best, a young, vibrant pretty lady who gave so much to so many and the knowledge she gave to children will live with them for ever.”
Her parents, Bill and Joyce Carter, moved to Wales, but moved back to Devizes enabling Mrs McNair to attend the sixth form at Devizes School.
She qualified as a primary school teacher and had an 18-year career, finishing at Wansdyke School in Devizes, where she was deputy head for about six years.
She left to set up her own business, Potato Patch Crafts, and had a shop at the Old Potato Yard, Lydeway.
Jim Smith, who was headteacher of Wansdyke School when Mrs McNair was deputy head, said: “Jane cared deeply for children. Her enthusiasm and joy for teaching made her a superb teacher. She was a special person who significantly touched the lives of many people.”
Mrs McNair’s family has received hundreds of cards and messages of support and after the service her mother, Joyce Carter, said they wanted to thank everyone who had done so and also given donations to Breast Cancer Care in memory of her daughter.
