Sixpenny Nursery in Devizes raised £150 for the Gazette’s Help for Heroes appeal.

Parents and staff at the nursery, in Nursteed village, made and sold cakes and held a raffle last Thursday. The event coincided with the nursery’s summer production and sports day.

Raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and included a nail treatment voucher, bottles of wine and food goodie bag.

Nursery nurse Lisa Woolley said: “We were very pleased with the amount raised.

“Help for Heroes is an amazing charity.

“My dad was in the Army and I know how hard it is for service personnel to go to places like Iraq and leave their families behind. I used to worry when I was a child that my dad would ever come back.

“If soldiers return from action with limbs missing then Help for Heroes can help them. Years ago servicemen didn’t have that.”
