The cost of the Armed Forces Day celebrations in Corsham last month totalled £5,000, a tab that was picked up by the town council.
Councillors, who last week debated whether to host the celebrations every two or five years, agreed that the issue would be discussed further but that holding an event every year would be too costly.
Coun Michael Simpkins said: “We should mark Armed Forces Day every year because it is a national event.
“But it doesn’t have to be the council who organises it. It could be a community group that takes the lead.”
