Corsham market has been a success in its first ten months, a council review has found.

The regular Tuesday market was launched last September by Wiltshire Council in partnership with Corsham Town Council and is the first regular market for ten years.

Wiltshire Council asked the public for their views, including overall satisfaction, satisfaction with the variety of goods for sale, whether they would of visited the town centre if it wasn’t for the market, and how the market could be improved.

The overall majority of the replies were positive and the council’s markets team is working to maintain trader numbers and variety.

Coun Dick Tonge, cabinet member responsible for markets, said: “I am very pleased to see Corsham market being so successful, it’s great that the town has taken this initiative.”

Coun Allan Bosley, town council chairman, said: “The return of the general market to Corsham has had a real impact on the town.

“There’s a real community atmosphere in the High Street on a Tuesday morning as many residents have become market regulars.

“The market has also undoubtedly introduced Corsham to a wider audience, with shoppers who didn’t know the town well before returning even on non-market business because they have ‘discovered’ all there is to offer here.”

The market sells fresh fruit and veg, cheese, locally sourced meat, fish, cakes, artisan bread, flowers, plants, herbs, Asian spices, cards, pashminas and pet foods.
