The Kremlinaires

This madcap bunch of ex-Soviets who escaped to the West have become firm favourites. The band, whose singing accordionist is pictured below, performed to a packed crowd in the Old Lion Court marquee on Saturday evening.

They have lived and entertained in Britain since 1997 and have become regulars at Marlborough where their unique brand of comic story telling and super music always guarantees them standing room only.

Maybe their music is not to everyone’s taste but this band is all entertainment and the crowd loved every minute.

November Criminals

Every Marlborough festival throws up a surprise and none more than the group of ex-Trowbridge College students who jumped at the chance to play when one booked performer failed to show up.

The seven-piece band, featuring three saxophonists were most certainly not jazz but out and out rock ‘n’ roll of the best calibre.

They mixed their rock with heavy metal and it’s a wonder the roof on St Mary’s Church Hall was not lifted off as this group pleased a small but appreciative audience.

There is growing support for the jazz festival being opened up into a music for all festival and this is one band that should certainly be booked to reappear in the future.

Adam Winslet Band

The Adam Winslet band played to an appreciative audience in the marquee at The Crown on Saturday.

This band has been nominated for the Brewin Dolphin best newcomer of the 2010 Marlborough Jazz Festival award.

Vocalist Adam Winslet, who leads the eight-piece band was outstanding, winning appreciative applause from the almost full audience.

He was backed by a super talented team of musicians, including saxophonist Chris White, who was with Dire Straits for ten years, and trumpeter Matt Holland, who has been Van Morrison’s musical director and has played with Burt Bacharach, Ray Charles and Georgie Fame.

Trevor Mires (trumpet) has worked with Jamie Cullum, and bassist Paul Geary has toured with Jools Holland and Simply Red.
