It'll be lights, camera, action for the first time at The Chippenham Auction Rooms on Saturday as a BBC film crew rolls into town.

The auction house has been chosen to host the filming of the BBC2 show The Antiques Road Trip, where experts go searching for treasures and compete to see who makes the most money at auction.

On this occasion experts Charles Ross and Mark Stacy will be the stars of the show, in which all profits go to Children in Need.

Delighted at the prospect of appearing on the small screen, Chippenham auctioneer Richard Edmonds said: “It is a reward for all of the hard work we have put in and we should really be thanking the people of Chippenham and the surrounding area for their help.

“We have had some great sales recently including selling over £20,000 worth of antique enamel signs and before that we had an auction where every lot was sold.”

The TV crews will be present at the same auction that will see a collection of 2,000-year-old small items go under the hammer. They are a small terracotta feeder, an Egyptian Shawabti figure and a small ceramic turquoise glazed eye bath.

The figure is believed to be from 500 to 3000bc and was at some point in a tomb where it is believed that in the after life it would turn into a servant for his rich owner.

“To have the TV crews here when we sell such an unusual lot will be truly special,” said Mr Edmonds.

“It is obviously a sale of special smalls as we also have a little book included that could date back to the 14th century”
