Fundraiser Christine Bryant has set up a stall in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance in the conservatory at her home.

Mrs Bryant, of Brickley Lane, Devizes, has been raising money for the charity ever since the death of her daughter Amanda, a teacher, at the age of 22 in 1992.

Mrs Bryant said: “Amanda studied to become a teacher at Bristol University and she got a job teaching at a school in Mill Hill, north London.

“She had come home for the Easter holidays and she wasn’t feeling very well.”

Amanda collapsed at home and died on her way to hospital in the air ambulance. The cause of death was given as pleurisy.

Despite that, Mrs Bryant has been raising money for the air ambulance ever since. She and her husband Reg donated £400 when they asked for donations to the charity in lieu of presents on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary five years ago.

Mrs Bryant, who has two grandchildren, the children of her son Karl, said: “I had all these plants in the garden that I didn’t need and I thought I could sell them in aid of the air ambulance.

“Then people started giving me things to sell, like videos and unwanted presents. So I have set up this stall and people can come round and buy.

“I have tried to keep everything on the stall blue and yellow, the colours of the air ambulance.”

When the stall is open Mrs Bryant will display a sign on the front door of her house at 67 Brickley Lane telling people to go round the back.

She said: “I hope people will donate things too, so as well as making room in their house, they will be supporting a very good cause.”

Mrs Bryant’s first customer last week was 14-year-old neighbour Jordan Topliss.

The air ambulance charity shop in Sidmouth Street has lent her display material and Barefoot Signs in Commercial Road are creating a sign for her.
