The proposed new dairy complex at Sharcott, Pewsey that recently gained planning approval failed to make clear the true nature of what will ensue.
We should support bio-diversity on our farms and not mono agricultural factories. Surely for every one of these approved, small traditional farmers are disadvantaged?
Rotation farming ensures balanced food which is good for us.
Cows have not evolved to spend most of their lives in sheds, they need to graze in pastures, not stand on concrete.
The applicants claim that it will increase local employment, but centralised automated farming will not significantly do this.
Higher rainfall and less natural run-off will lead to increased flood risk. This area has always had drainage problems – concreting large areas of farmland will make this worse.
What effect will this new technology have on rural tourism?
