Community minded Yvonne Hargreaves, 88, died in Salisbury District Hospital on Saturday after a long illness.
She and her husband David were well known in Market Lavington and Poulshot.
Mrs Hargreaves was brought up in London and served with the WAAF during the Second World War. She worked as a florist in London, where she was married in 1951.
The couple moved to Market Lavington in 1957 as her husband worked in Devizes for TH White, the agricultural firm.
In 1967 the couple set up Hargreaves Horticultural Machinery which was initially based in Sidmouth Street but moved to The Nursery (where the mobility shop is now).
They sold the business 21 years ago to Roses of Estcourt Street, Devizes.
They lived in Market Lavington where Mrs Hargreaves set up an over 60s club and was an active member of the church. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross, a member of Devizes Flower Club and secretary of the Soroptomist International Benevolent Fund.
In 1980 the couple moved to Poulshot.
She and husband were devastated when their son, Robert, died in a diving accident in 1979 aged 22.
She is survived by her husband, children Sarah, Diana and Mark and her eight grandchildren.
Her funeral service is at 11am on Monday, July 12, at St Peter’s Church, Poulshot.
Her family have asked donations in her memory to go to Soroptomist International Benevolent Fund c/o John Stuart funeral service in Devizes.
