Cowboy boots and stetsons were dusted off again at the weekend as the Calne Country Music Festival rolled into town for the 21st year.

It attracted thousands of line dancers to a field off Oxford Road for two days of non-stop music.

This year, organisers supported the Calne Community Transport charity as usual, as well as SNAP, the Chippenham Rotary Club’s appeal to provide St Nicholas School with a hydrotherapy pool.

Sandi King, of Little Somerford, who has organised the event with husband David and sister-in-law Sandra for four years, was delighted with the festival’s success.

“We are still counting the money so we don’t know quite how much we have raised yet or how many people we had over the weekend, but numbers were def- initely up.

“We also had a lot of people who came for the first time and said they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves and couldn’t wait to come again next year.”

The field was transformed with charity stalls, falconry displays, bars and a disco for the weekend. One of the highlights was top band Henry Smith’s Country Dreams.

Mrs King said: “The music was brilliant, and the weather was very kind to us.

“I have already started planning next year’s festival, I’ve booked some bands and I will be down at the town council this week to book the field again.”
