Children at three schools swapped school dinners for hog roasts as they sampled life in medieval times last Thursday.
Youngsters from Ivy Lane and Queens Crescent in Chippenham and Sutton Benger joined forces for the day as they stepped back in time as part of their Take One Castle topic.
Key Stage Two children gathered at Ivy Lane School where they took part in apple bobbing, jousting on hobby horses and archery, while the Key Stage One youngsters assembled at Queens Crescent School.
All the children indulged in a medieval-style banquet at lunch time, courtesy of ABM catering.
Business manager Rachel Lambert said: “The children have loved the topic, and we had a brilliant day last week.
“The weather was great and everyone made a lot of effort – all the children and staff dressed up in medieval costumes.
“We had lots of knights, princesses, and peasants, and someone even dressed up as a castle.”
She added: “We even had a falconry guy who came in and did a display.
“It was all about bringing learning to life.”
During the topic, the children have been on trips to a number of castles, including Farleigh Hungerford, near Bath, Chepstow and Caerphilly.
Mrs Lambert added that the pupils had been doing art. “An artist came in who helped create a life-size image of a knight which all the children in the school were involved in,” she said.
