Carnival organisers in Pewsey are hoping for a huge turnout of villagers on Saturday to see who the 2010 carnival queen and other royalty will be.
Micky High, a member of the village Hasbeens group, which has organised the annual queen selection for at least 20 years, said: “The number of girls we get taking part varies from year to year but we are hoping for a particularly good entry this year having had a good number of girls taking part in 2009.”
As well as the carnival queen, her two attendants, the carnival prince and princess and flower girl will also be chosen on Saturday during a disco at the Bouverie Hall.
Mr High said the judges will all be local and this year, he said, the organisers had gone for some younger ones instead of the traditionally older selection panel.
“We would like to see as many people as possible come along and enjoy what is always an excellent evening,” he said.
The carnival queen contestants have to be 14 or over on carnival day (September 18) and there is a first prize of £150 with each of the two attendants getting £100. Their gowns will be paid for by the carnival committee.
The princess should be aged between 11 and 14 and the prince and flower girl contestants have to be aged seven to ten. Their outfits will also be provided by the carnival committee.
The younger royalty will be chosen between 6pm to 9pm and the carnival queen will be chosen from 9.30pm.
