A variety show born in Devizes last year and a hit at Edinburgh Festival Fringe is due to return as part of Devizes Carnival.
Variety in the Corn was one of the unexpected hits of last year’s carnival when performers due to appear at the street festival on August bank holiday Monday put on a show in the Corn Exchange the previous evening.
The producers, Slightly Fat Features, took the show on to other events, including Edinburgh, and ended up at the Roundhouse in London.
Dave Buxton, Devizes Carnival’s artistic director, said: “It was an absolute hoot last year. It was a family show with lots of clowns, jugglers, music and terrible jokes.
“The appearance at Devizes Carnival was the beginning of a tour that really took off. The same cast will be back this year with a completely different show.”
Variety in the Corn will take place on Sunday August 29.
The following day the street festival, which is now marketed as an event on its own and attracts thousands of people from all over the UK, will run in the Market Place and The Brittox.
Acts already booked for the event include Bootworks Theatre with The Black Box.This is a theatre for one audience member, while the rest of the audience watch from the outside as if from backstage.
Also performing are Raz’Bitumes from France and the Kawa Brass Band from Jaipur in India.
