Pupils from six schools around Devizes enjoyed a golfing festival in Bishops Cannings.

There were 62 students teeing up at North Wilts Golf Club last Wednesday.

The festival was organised jointly by the club and the Mid Wilts Schools Sport Partnership.

June Poffley, junior organiser at the club, said: “The festival has been running for three years and will continue to run as it’s very enjoyable, especially for the parents watching.”

The day was organised by Mrs Poffley and 16 young volunteers who help run the games and mini-golf courses.

“It’s the most satisfying part of it, they’re terrific role models” she said.

The pupils aged seven to 11 were taught with plastic clubs for safety.

They will use regular equipment if they progress to the club’s Saturday morning sessions, which Mrs Poffley said are very successful. They now include a girls-only club which has 11 members.
