SWINDON Wildcats' top points scorer Aaron Nell has been recognised by Great Britain head coach Paul Thompson.
After back-to-back warm-up wins against fellow Division One nation, The Netherlands, last weekend, Thompson has named Nell as a 'hot standby' in the squad that will represent the country at the 2010 World Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Nell, 20, received the Dave Richardson Award for Best British Player as well as picking up the Coach's Player of the Year medal at the Wildcats' end-of-season presentation evening.
He went on to score six goals in the final two games of the season - including both of the team's goals at the Coventry SkyDome play-off semi-final defeat against Guildford.
As 'hot standby', Nell - the only player in the squad to be selected from the English Premier Ice Hockey League - will train with the squad before they fly out to Ljubljana and will travel in the event of any injuries before the tournament.
