THE sound of smashing glass should no longer rob Wroughton residents of their peace and quiet.
People in Spencers Orchard claim they have suffered months of misery because of a recycling scheme in the village.
The recycling centre is in the Ellendune Centre car park, which backs on to Spencers Orchard.
A petition signed by 14 residents was presented to the council back in August, complaining the sound of smashing glass was becoming intolerable.
People have been using the site from 6am to midnight.
Swindon Borough Council is planning to introduce new measures to provide residents with a more peaceful existence.
John Short, director of Swindon contractors and recreation services, said: "A 'muffler' system can be fitted, which uses sound insulating material to line the bottle banks.
"New containers would need to be purchased, which would be supplied ready-lined. "
Council officials have been told the system will reduce noise by up to 85 per cent.
The £1,560 cost of having three new containers will be met by Thamesdown Recycling .
