PLANS for the redevelopment of the former Princess Alexandra Hospital go on display this week.

London-based developer Dukeminster is staging an exhibition at the former hospital site at Wroughton from 11am to 4pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for the developer said it was hoped the exhibition would give members of the public a clear idea of the approach it had adopted in regenerating of the site.

There will be a chance to ask questions and short guided tours will be arranged.

Plans for the 65-acre former hospital site, which are expected to create 350 jobs, include:

l A 90,000 sq ft conference centre and ancillary accommodation

l 40,000 sq ft of office space

l About 111 new homes

l Eight new-style live-in/work-in units

l A community facility

Dukeminster has pledged the development will not exceed two storeys in height and will be built on the existing footprint of buildings.

In July it emerged many of the existing buildings are riddled with asbestos and will have to be demolished to allow the development to go ahead.

Wroughton Parish Council is also eager to determine what sort of impact the development will have on village life, especially in terms of any increase in traffic.

Swindon borough councillor Pambos Economides said: "My main concern would be any increase in traffic as there is a lot of traffic through the village as it is now.

"We also need to make sure that the development has some social housing and is environmentally friendly in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty."
