A Swindon trio has grabbed the attention of some of the top people in the music business.
Nubium, while made up of experienced musicians, are a new band on the music scene who have already won the backing of Roger Bolton, from Avebury Studios.
Roger played keyboards with Peter Gabriel and has composed several TV themes including the music for the programme 999.
"He wants to help us and coach us for a record deal,'' said Doug Jones, the drummer with the band.
While playing at Trowbridge 2000 Festival the band also caught the attention of Andy Evans, producer of such bands as Massive Attack.
"He came up to us afterwards ,'' said William Tubby the bass player. "He liked our sound.''
And now the band are hoping for a possible future collaboration with him.
The third member of the band is the lead singer Marcello Assini whose rap style compliments the drum and bass of the other two.
"It is an organic and synthetic mix,'' said Will. "We synthesise the tunes and have a synthetic middle bit where a guitarist would be, but keep the human contact of the drum and bass.''
Doug and Will live at Tottenham House in Marlborough and take workshops for ex-heroin users, alcholics and convicts as part of the work done by the Amber Foundation.
In return they use the studios at the house for their own music, laying down the drum and track bases before dragging Marcello off the street to sing the vocals.
Doug and Will met whilst doing a Princess Trust course in Stoke on Trent while Marcello and Doug played in band five years ago.
One of their first gigs was at a Battle of the Bands at the Queen's Tap in Swindon and last summer in the Town Gardens as part of the Main Ingredient concert.
Marcello writes the lyrics and Doug the music for their tracks but they all contribute to the arrangements and produced a high energy performance which is very visual and theatrical.
Nubium play at The Victoria, Victoria Road, Old Town in Swindon at the Mail Coach on October 26.
