WELSH winger Andy Williams believes he has recaptured the form that made him a first-team regular last season.
A series of explosive displays for the reserves won Williams a return to the bench for the match against Oxford on Sunday, October 8.
And the 23-year-old endeared himself to the fans by playing his part in Giuliano Grazioli's dramatic winner.
Williams made 36 appearances last season following his £60,000 move from Southampton.
He rested a nagging knee injury over the summer but suddenly found himself out of Colin Todd's plans.
"I thought I had a good season last year and although you can't take anything for granted in football I hoped to be involved," said Williams.
"Obviously that didn't happen and it was very frustrating that I wasn't even getting on the substitutes bench.
"I had it at Southampton, but that was when they were in the Premier League and I was a bit younger, so it was expected a bit more."
Williams decided to go and see the manager and was given encouragement to get his head down and battle for a starting spot.
"He said he had got his first 11 at the moment but if I work hard you never know what might happen.
"If somebody gets injured or suffers a dip in form I've got to be ready to take my chance.
"In the games I have played for the reserves recently I think I have done quite well.
"It was good to get on against Oxford and be back involved again. I did well against Colchester the other day so hopefully I'll be on the bench again tomorrow and get a bit longer out there."
Todd said: "People were telling me when I first joined the club how Andy Williams was one of the quickest players in the squad.
"I had not seen anything like that from him in training or on the pitch for the reserves. But he is now starting to show me what he can do.
"Andy is very much a part of my plans. He came on and did well against Oxford on Sunday, he looked bright and pacy in training on Tuesday and he performed very well for the reserves at Colchester.
"Football is a funny game. One minute you can be on the fringes and the next you can be in the thick of the action. Andy has that chance."
Williams' contract runs out at the end of this season and he is determined to win himself an improved deal.
He said: "I only moved down here six months ago so the last thing I want to do is move on again. If I keep on putting the performances in for the reserves I will get my chance."
Sol Davis is Town's only injury doubt for tomorrow with a thigh strain.
