I am writing in response to Tony McLellan (October 9), on his description of the sheer frustration of being a taxi driver in Swindon.
I have every sympathy for his plight sitting in a permanent traffic jam adjoining an empty bus lane must be absolute hell, particularly when your livelihood depends on the number of journeys you can make.
At last month's meeting of the council, Coun Jemima Milton put forward a motion which would allow taxis to use bus lanes.
This has been referred to the council's officers for them to make any relevant comments, and when it returns to full council it will receive the total backing of the Conservative Group.
Perhaps then Mr McLellan will be persuaded to abandon his plans to hike along the Ridgeway.
Incidentally, at the same council meeting I proposed a motion allowing powered two-wheelers to use the bus lanes. This again awaits the reaction of the officers, but the Conservatives will certainly support it when it is put to the vote. We are determined to get Swindon's traffic moving again.
