A RATHER special train will be steaming into Swindon later this month.
Thomas the Tank Engine will be making his first visit to Steam, the museum of the Great Western Railway.
Created by the Rev Wilbert Awdry, Thomas has become a firm favourite with children across the world.
Thomas has strong Wiltshire links, as the stories were inspired by trains going past the Rev Awdry's home in Box, near Chippenham, while his daughter, Hilary Fortnam, lives in Highworth.
Swindon youngsters will have the chance to meet Thomas on Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29.
Joining Thomas on his visit to Steam will be Trevor the Traction Engine and Sir Topham Hatt the Fat Controller who will invite children to join him as he tells stories.
The weekend of fun at Steam will also include children's trails and competitions and a mini train will be giving free rides.
Louisa Smith, Steam's events and promotion officer, said: "These days out will be exciting opportunity to see Thomas in real life, and ensure a fabulous day out for all the family. "
Thomas and friends will be available between 11am and 5pm. Normal charging admission apply. Adults £4.80, Children and Senior Citizens £3.00. A family ticket is also available for two children and two adults (£13). Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more. Steam can be contacted on 01793 466646.
