LOCAL Screwfix teams struggled to find the results they wanted this week, as good performances went largely unrewarded.

Calne Town travelled to Somerset to face Chard Town in a very competitive first division clash and came away with a 2-1 win.

Toby Colbourne scored twice as Calne put in another excellent performance against a hard-working team.

Manager Graham Learmonth was delighted with his team's attitude to the game, and was also hopeful of a table-topping season.

He said: "The lads played really well out there, and we're on a really good run.

"We had a few key players missing, but the boys who came in played really well.

"The main strengths of our squad is the strength-in-depth and team spirit we have. We've gone seven games unbeaten, and I think we've thoroughly deserved it.

Learmonth said "There's still a long way to go, but if we can keep these good performances coming, I think we could quite easily challenge for promotion."

Corsham Town battled to a 1-1 draw at home to fourth-placed Larkhall Athletic, but were unlucky not to get a win.

Chris Weekes was the Corsham scorer in a game they felt they should have won.

"We were disappointed with the goal we gave away, but a draw was probably a fair result." said Corsham boss Colin Hudd.

"We need some more time to gel, but if we can hold onto our players, it is looking promising for future seasons."

The draw leaves Corsham ninth in Division one, and they will travel to Ilfracombe Town next week.

Devizes Town kept the Screwfix flag flying in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round, as they beat Saltdean United 2-1 away. They now lie just 90 minutes away from a tie in the First Round Proper.

Elsewhere in the Screwfix Premier, Westbury drew 0-0 at Bridgwater Town, Chippenham Town lost 1-0 to Barnstaple Town, and Melksham drew 1-1 with Bridport.
