A NEW St John Ambulance training centre has been opened in Swindon.
The centre, which will be used to run first aid training courses for businesses during the day and as a training centre for volunteers in the evenings, was officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sir Maurice Johnston yesterday.
The former GWR railway building in Rodbourne Road has been transformed in to the new centre thanks to the support of companies in Swindon and the work of fundraisers.
More than 120 people were in attendance at the opening ceremony, including the High Sheriff of Wiltshire; Arthur and Doris Archer, the Mayor and Mayoress of Swindon; and senior volunteers of Wiltshire St John Ambulance.
St John Ambulance, which also has a base in Corpor-ation Street, Swindon, is looking to take on new volunteers to assist with public first aid duty and help run cadet divisions and badger sets.
