MORE than 150 people visited Princess Alexandra Hospital in Wroughton, to view plans for a multi-million pound redevelopment of the site.
On Saturday, London-based developer Dukeminster displayed its plans in the old officers mess of the former military hospital.
The proposals for the 65-acre brown field site were submitted to Swindon Borough Council as an outline application in July.
These include:
A 90,000 sq ft conference centre and ancillary accommodation.
40,000 sq ft of office space.
Approximately 11 new homes.
Eight live-in/work-in units
A community facility.
Spokesman for the company, Bruce Pell explained: "We are keen to show the public the plans and we are interested to hear their reactions to our proposals. We have been pleased with the number of people who have come along here today."
He added that the scheme could generate roughly 350 jobs, most of which would be in the proposed conference centre, which would employ chefs, receptionists, housekeepers, restaurant staff, porters, gardeners, maintenance and administration workers.
The conference centre would be owned by Hayley Conference Centres, which has sites all over the country and provides facilities with high standards of accommodation, leisure facilities and restaurants.
Work could begin in the early part of next year if planning permission is granted. The proposed 65-acre development will be built within the existing 'foot print' of the hospital building, to minimise disruption.
