POLICE today appealed to three people to come forward with information about an assault on a woman near the town centre.
The victim was followed by a man in his 20s along Fleming Way and Queens Drive before she was grabbed. Three people helped the woman before and after the assault.
Police spokeswoman Alvina Kumar said: "She was walking along Fleming Way and when she neared the Arriva Ford showroom she became aware of a man walking 10 to 15 metres behind her. She then saw a man and woman and asked if she could walk with them."
After a short distance the couple got into a taxi near the Magic Roundabout and the young woman carried on walking along Fleming Way before turning into Queens Drive.
Mrs Kumar said: "The man continued to walk behind her and upon reaching the Bulldog pub he suddenly grabbed her by the right arm. She screamed and managed to break free of his hold."
The man ran away and the woman was taken to her home in Eldene by a passing woman driver in a blue Vauxhall Cavalier. The attack happened at 2.15am on Sunday and police are keen to speak to the couple and the woman in the Cavalier.
The attacker is described as white, slim, aged in his late 20s and 5ft 6in tall. He had shoulder-length hair in a pony tail and was wearing a blue fleece jacket.
Anyone with information should phone Swindon CID on 528111.
