Swindon College Old Boys 12, Devizes 8: College bounced back to winning ways with a good win against the previously unbeaten joint league leaders.
Devizes took the lead against the run of play with a penalty. This stirred College and almost immediately they replied with skipper Steve Packer scoring the first of his two tries. Hooker Mark Brown took the ball against the head and scrum half Sean Millwaters quickly fed centre Neil White who passed to Packer to score. Millwaters converted.The Devizes kicker missed three penalty chances after Devizes had put College under a lot of pressure.
College then scored a superb try just before the break. Millwaters took a quick tap penalty in his own 22 and ran out of defence.
He chipped the ball over the Devizes line and regathered his kick. The ball was then passed to man of the match flanker Steve Offord who passed to Packer who went on to score. Devizes started the second half strongly but dogged defence by a College side full of belief kept them out. Devizes did manage a score when a College error gave the winger an easy run in.
The last 20 minutes were evenly fought with neither side giving an inch. The College pack's unrelenting defence won this game.
College deserved this victory and are now looking forward to their visit to Ivel Barbarians on Saturday.
