Fans of top folk rock band Steeleye Span are flying in to Swindon from all over the UK and as far away as Germany to see their music heroes.

The Arts Centre in Devizes Road, Old Town is playing host to the ground-breaking band on Monday, October 23, at 8pm.

One fan is jetting in on Saturday from Cologne for the sell out concert and will return on Tuesday.

Dave Kingsbury, from the Arts Centre, said: "We only have two singles left but in the spirit of Anglo-German relations we will try and get two together for him.

"He is not coming here on business or anything. He is coming just to see Steeleye Span.''

The folk rockers have notched up 30 years since their first album Hark! The Village Wait album first launched on to the music scene.

Bringing their electronic sound to traditional tunes, the band changed the face of folk.

Countless line-up changes over the years have not altered the essential style of their music and the current line-up includes four familiar faces from the past.

Bob Johnson is on guitar and vocals, Gay Woods is on vocal and bodhran, Peter Knight is on fiddle and vocals, Tim Harries is on bass, keyboards and vocals.

Joining them on stage for this tour is drummer Dave Mattacks.

Dave has played with such greats as Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Fairport Convention.

On this current tour the musicians are promoting their new studio album and the live 26-track double CD The Journey.

Last year Steeleye Span did the festival circuit including an arena show at Sidmouth in front of more than 6000 people and an extensive UK tour to mark their 30th anniversary.

The concert is a total sell out.
